Blewitt Springs Wine Co.
Taborco Vineyard is set in the undulating hills of the McLaren Vale wine growing region, and in close proximity to the sea, Mt Lofty ranges and less than an hour from Adelaide CBD. Blewitt Springs is home to some of the oldest vines in the region, has the highest altitude of 150-210 metres, highest rainfall and coolest winters of the valley.
The vineyard was planted in three blocks- the first in 1998 comprising the 1654 Shiraz clone; the second in 2005 and the third in 2008, with both of these blocks using the Blewitt Springs clone. The vines are on east facing slopes with rows running north to south. The ancient sand in this area is the Burra Group, circa 750million years old. The mid and bottom of the block is sand over clay and the top is sand over laminated grey siltstone.
The size of the vineyard is approximately 18 acres of Shiraz vines, and produces 40 tonnes of grapes with the result being a robust, fruit driven wine with excellent cellaring potential.
The vineyard is certified as organic.
