Fine, tight and elegant palate with mid palate roundness finishing with a clean zesty acidity.
Though wonderful on its own, this wine makes an excellent accompaniment to chicken, seafood and light red meat dishes. Try it with a Carpaccio of beef.
The fine structure of this wine should see it age well for four to six years.
The Leconfield Coonawarra estate was established in 1974 by one of Australia’s most talented winemakers, Sydney Hamilton. In the subsequent four decades, the vineyard has become famous for the distinctive wines it produces. The Chardonnay sits alongside Riesling, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvi- gnon to make our classic style of wines.
Our Chardonnay vineyard was planted in 1985 and 1988. Coonawarra's white wines are wonderfully elegant, fine and invite winemakers to express their style. 2013, though in a challenging year viticulturally, produced some outstanding, refined white styles. Fully barrel fermentation, part with natural yeast and part inoculated with cultured yeast, the wine had initial frequent battonage (lees stirring) during fermentation and less frequently as the wine matured. A second portion was allowed to undergo malo-lactic fermentation while on yeast lees. We have produced a modern style of chardonnay which has finesse and elegance but with a highlight of very fine French oak. The wine received a light fining before bottling in April 2012.
